Ousseynou Kouyate – Senegalese master performing artist, educator and artistic director. Performs with identical twin brother Hassan Kouyate. ”The twins” as they are affectionately called, have electrified audiences around the world, also gracing the stage with many renowned West African artists including, Youssou N’Dour, Toumani Diabate, Ami Koita, Baaba Maal and Kine Lam.
The Kouyate twins developed their own company – Sekhou Senegal (formerly Djialy Kunda Kouyate), which has had members in Hawaii, New Mexico, D.C., New York, Georgia, California, and frequent guest performers from Africa. The duo perform at international/world music festivals, dance festivals, concerts, and educational programs, to name a few. Accompanied by their 6-member band, performances reflect traditional music, song and dance; incorporating African instruments, including the djembe, dun dun, sabar, talking drums, kora, ngoni, balafon and the added modern flare of the keyboard, percussion and bass. Ousseynou currently resides, performs and teaches in the bay area and beyond both with and without his brother. His grace and regal style are amazing to experience.
